EXTENDED VIEWS: a landscape series

The series “Extended Views” is rooted in an interest in the cultural ideology of the American landscape. With little to no traces of people, the series explores American ideals of how to look at and experience the natural world. The views are expansive and vast with unbroken horizon lines allowing for the illusion that they might continue on forever. A horizontal mirroring of the image artificially extends the landscape to further perpetuate this illusion. The resulting symmetry of the images draws attention to the subtle but prevalent alteration of our modern landscape, a reminder that our natural world has become a curated and cultivated vista.
